Past District Governor Calvin Bachmeier grew up near Leader and obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Notre Dame College in Wilcox, Saskatchewan and a Bachelor of Education Degree at the University of Ottawa.
Governor Calvin is now involved in farming, but spent 30 years as an Industrial Arts teacher. He served in his professional organization, the Saskatchewan Teacher's Federation, as a Councilor for 18 years.
He was on the Provincial Health and Safety Review Committee and Teacher Welfare Committee. In the Leader School Division, he was a Teacher's Association Executive member and on the committees for Joint Teacher-Board Advisory and Board Policy Review.
Lion Calvin served as a monitor at the Terry Fox Centre in Ottawa and, while an executive member of the Saskatchewan Association of Student Advisors, took students to many conferences and organized several Positive Lifestyles Conferences plus one Provincial Student Leadership Conference in Leader School.
Since retiring, District Governor Calvin has served as a Superannuated Teacher's President and a member of the Provincial Executive of the Superannuated Teachers of Saskatchewan. Lion Calvin is a town alderman and in his rapidly disappearing spare time enjoys curling, golf, hunting and fishing.
He and Elida have 4 adult children.
As a 29-year Lion, Governor Calvin held most offices in his club including president and secretary. Calvin has served as District 5-CW Diabetes Awareness Chairperson for the last five years, served as Zone Chairman and has represented District 5-CW at our province's Lions Cavalcade for Diabetes. He has attended many conventions and workshops and feels that motivational speakers help promote and re-ignite the spirit of Lionism.
It is with pleasure that he serves as our District Governor and he says that he expects learn more about Lionism this year than he will teach to others.
